Staying in Valencia for your Erasmus? We have pulled together some of our favourite day trips that you can do that won’t break the bank!

  • Montanejos

Do you like hiking? Would you like to see some stunning views and relax by hot springs after? Montanejos could be the trip for you! 

How to get there? 

Taking a trip with Happy Erasmus is the easiest way to go, due to its remote location. This trip also includes a couple of hikes; one 3 hour hike in the morning, with time to relax at the hot springs afterwards and a one hour hike to the black cave later in the day. Even if hiking is not your thing, relaxing by the hot springs and enjoying the surroundings is a lovely experience. There is even a snack bar there in case you get a bit hungry!

  • Sagunto

Situated north of Valencia is the beautiful town of Sagunto. Here you can find the historical Sagunto Castle. It is just a 40 min train from Valencia Nord station. You can enjoy the walk up to the castle and the lovely architecture. Whatsmore, the Castle is free to enter, and you can enjoy beautiful views of the mountains and city below. The castle dates back over two thousand years and includes Roman, Iberian and mediaeval remains. There is also a roman theatre, which is worth a visit; it is still used today for cultural and theatre events. Nearby you can also find Sagunto Beach. Enjoy the weather and relax with some tapas beside the water. During your visit to the city, there are plenty of places to stop and grab a coffee, tapas or bocadillo in a local bar. 

How to get there?
Sagunto can easily be reached by car in 30 mins or 40 mins by train from Valencia Nord Station.

  • Alicante

Do you enjoy the beach as well as beautiful architecture and chilled vibes? Situated 2.5h from Valencia, is the coastal city of Alicante. You can enjoy relaxing on its stunning beach, walk along the promenade, take a stroll up to the Castillo de Santa Barbara for some stunning views of the city, as well as wonder around the old, taking in the architecture of the cathedral or down the Calle de las Seta (Mushroom Street).

How to get there? 

There are a few options depending on your preference and budget. You can take a direct train from Valencia Nord to Alicante which would take just under 2 hours. The other option is a BlaBla car. This is a car share service available throughout Spain and Europe and you can usually get a journey at a reasonable price. Organised trips, such as by Happy Erasmus or Erasmus Life, are also available, which can allow you to meet new people, and discover the city together. 

  • Altea and Benidorm

Benidorm is known to have one of the most beautiful beaches in Spain, enjoy the weather and relax by the sea. Wander around the hilltop, where there is the site of the former castle of Benidorm city, with views over the coastline and across the water to the L’illa de Benidorm nature reserve.

During the same trip, it is worth visiting the beautiful city of Altea. This is situated just east of Benidorm. Here, you can enjoy wandering through the streets of the old town, not forgetting to admire the towers of Iglesia de Nuestra Senora del Consuelo, before relaxing with a cocktail or 2 at the promenade on the beachfront.

How to get there?
Companies such as Erasmus Life and Happy Erasmus organise day trips to Altea and Benidorm. Alternatively, you could look into BlaBla car as a similarly affordable option.  

  • Albufera

Nature reserve situated 30 mins from Valencia. It is the perfect place for a walk or to watch the sunset; also where paella originated from. You can take a boat tour out on the lake or enjoy panoramic views over the water.

How to get there? 

You can cycle to Albufera from Valencia in around 30 mins or take a bus (line 25).
